The Generations Program

About the Generations Program

The Generations Program connects survivors, second generation families, and our entire community by honoring the enduring legacy of Holocaust Survivors and supporting the evolving needs of their loved ones. Through meaningful experiences, shared traditions, and supportive outreach, we aim to reduce isolation and strengthen bonds across generations. Led by a dedicated Generations Program Coordinator, this initiative expands upon our longstanding commitment to serving Holocaust survivors by also engaging second generation survivors—those whose lives have been shaped by the trauma, strength, and resilience of their parents and relatives. As the population of survivors diminishes, the role of the second generation becomes even more essential. They are conduits between past and future, ensuring that resilience, empathy, and remembrance live on.

Rooted in empathy and collaboration, the Generations Program reflects our belief that honoring the past creates space for new relationships, reflection, and joy. We listen closely to the voices of survivors and their families, using regular surveys, feedback, and focus groups to design offerings that reflect their lived experiences. The Generations Program team also collaborates with JFS Care Managers, The Counseling Center and community partners to best support and serve this unique population.

For Holocaust Survivors. Along with services provided by our Holocaust Survivor Support program, we continue to deliver culturally rich, personalized support for survivors in our community. The Generations Program enhances that care through:

  • Social gatherings designed with survivor preferences in mind
  • Special Shabbat and Jewish holiday meal deliveries
  • Transportation assistance and volunteer support to ensure accessibility for all

For Second Generation Survivors. We recognize the unique role of the Second Generation in carrying forward memory, tradition, and healing. The Generations Program offers:

  • Advisory opportunities for second generation members to shape programming and events
  • Engaging luncheons, learning sessions, and peer connection events
  • Ongoing dialogue and research into the interests, challenges, and hopes of second generation members
