Jewish Family Services (JFS) invites you to join the Rochester Jewish Coalition for Literacy in this tremendous effort to help our city’s youth. We will train you and place you in a city school where you will work one-on-one with a student who needs help with literacy skills. Give a minimum of one hour per week and get back the most fulfilling experience of a lifetime!
In 1999, the Jewish Federation instituted the Rochester Jewish Coalition for Literacy. Today, there are nearly 100 trained volunteers helping to instill a love of reading at 12 City Schools. The Jewish Coalition for Literacy has worked one-on-one with hundreds of children in kindergarten through third grade, the most critical age in learning to read. Additionally, through Coalition book drives, we have collected and distributed over 15,750 books.
We are proud of the role we take in assisting our community’s children to become readers. There are so many more children to reach – thousands are at risk.
If you have an hour a week to spare and know how to read… you can be a literacy volunteer! A small investment of your time brings the greatest of rewards. Sign up today!
