Jewish Life Educator

Summary:

The Jewish Living Educator plays a vital role in fostering Jewish connections and enhancing the cultural and spiritual well-being of residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Monroe County and in group homes. This position is responsible for designing and implementing meaningful programming and social engagement opportunities that promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Jewish traditions, culture, and values. The Jewish Living Educator will work in a diverse and inclusive environment, embracing the core values of inclusivity and service to all individuals and families.     

Per Diem Position – Approximately 30 hours/month. Hybrid

Salary Range: $19-23/hour

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Jewish Living Educator coordinates and facilitates Judaic culture-based content year-round programing to Jewish adults with IDD (Jewish Living), who resides in non-Jewish group homes and/or with their families. The Jewish Living Educator leads, coordinates and manages all aspects of this decades-long program. The Jewish Living Educator is responsible for maintaining and expanding constant communication with the program’s clients, their group home and agency staff, and families (when applicable), develops and implements additional supports of Jewish content and social engagement opportunities with this target audience, leads 7-8 in-person class sessions throughout the year, is responsible for maintaining and expanding engagement with families of disabled adults and children (I/DD), and works with them to initiate and develop opportunities of engagement for them within the Jewish community.

Other Duties:

  • Attend JFS staff meetings, conferences, and trainings
  • Participate in activities to promote JFS programs in the community including staffing resource fairs
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor

Education and Experience: 

  • Associates Degree in Human Services or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Strong networking/outreach skills, communication, and writing skills. 
  • Demonstrated abilities include critical thinking skills, professionalism, ability to maintain confidentiality, ability to work resourcefully.
  • Strong proficiency with all Microsoft Office 365 applications including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and interviewing skills
  • Demonstrates ability with written communications
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture and tradition beneficial
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings & weekends.
