Volunteer for JFS title graphic

While the Jewish Family Service has grown markedly more professional over the years, the organization remains a community-based, grassroots endeavor at its core.

Given the reality of limited financial resources combined with an unlimited desire to help everyone who needs our services, JFS simply could not function without its team of dedicated volunteers.

These people work directly with our professional staff in areas such as aging services, disabilities, resettlement and employment. They teach classes for new immigrants, they drive elderly people to their medical appointments, they assist Jewish residents in group homes, they serve as companions and mentors, and they lend a hand in our business office.

At Jewish Family Service, volunteer opportunities are constantly emerging and evolving. We are designing new volunteer positions for people of all ages and interests, and for those who want to "test the waters" with a short-term committment. If you are looking for a meaningful way to help others, start by calling JFS.

Generation Two Initiative

The Generation Two Initiative listens to children and speaks to government. This program recruits senior citizens, high school and college students to become emotional guides or friends to the children during a child's first grade year. Volunteers promote and enhance the emotional literacy or emotional and social competence of their young friends.

The Generation Two Initiative asks seniors to advocate for educational and health policies that promote emotional literacy. It empowers the youngest generation through a network of senior citizen, high school and college student volunteers who have made the cross-generation connection.

And One to Grow On

And One to Grow On (AOGO)is a volunteer based program that offers parents an innovative way to teach their children the importance of sharing and contributing to their community. AOGO encourages children to donate one of their birthday presents to a child in need as a result of challenging family or financial circumstances.

AOGO volunteers collect and distribute the donated gifts. The volunteers deliver the present in honor of the donor child to one of the AOGO youth serving community partners. The gifts are then distributed to children served by the partner agency.
