JFS offers several financial assistance programs ranging from one time loans to undergraduate scholarships.

Hebrew Free Loans

Interest-free loans to Jews in need. Loans are from $100 to $1,000. A plan to repay loan within one year is required.

Emergency Family Assistance

EFA services include a food cupboard with non-perishable food items, food vouchers to Wegmans and bus tokens. The cupboard, supported by United Way and donations from local synagogues, is available to Jewish and non-Jewish individuals in need.

Summer Internship

Jewish Family Service has a Summer Internship Program — The Morris and Ruth Malett Summer Internship. The paid internship job will be awarded to a college student whose area of academic interest is in Judaic studies, human services or a field relevant to the work of Jewish Family Service. Graduate and undergraduate students may apply. The internship fund was established by Sheldon D. Malett and Roseann R. Kraus to honor the memory of their parents. To apply, please download and complete our application by May 1st.

Scholarship Programs

Undergraduate scholarhips are available to Jewish students to further their post high school education. Priority is given to descendants of residents of the Jewish Children's Home as well as to those who face financial hardships paying for college.

Scholarship funds are available through a restricted endowment which designates that Jewish youth in Monroe County be helped in meeting their educational and vocational goals. Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

Applicants must explore and exhaust all community and personal financial resources
Applicant must be Jewish
Applicant must have legal residence in area served by the agency
Applicant must:
1. Derive financial support from family who lives in the area served by the agency or
2. Be financially self-supporting and have lived in the area prior to beginning college or
3. Be married to someone who is Jewish or who has explored and exhausted all community and personal financial resources
4. Applicant must attend an accredited undergraduate school with a clear education goal

If you would like to apply for an undergraduate grant, please download the application form and cover sheet. The application and cover sheet must be complete with all required attachments to be considered. Applications for the next college year must be received by May 1st.
